Eser Barbershop

Adaptive reuse barbershop _ Rear Cabinet design & concept fitout  _ 2024

Eser Barber is more than a barbershop—it’s a hybrid space that blends craft, community, and creativity. Designed for our friend Gav, a barber & poet on the Central Coast, the space reflects his vision: a personal, grounded, and intimate experience, much like a welcoming lounge room. More than just a place for haircuts, Eser Barber has become a cultural hub, hosting music events, poetry readings, talks, and art shows, filling a void in the local creative scene.

Built on adaptive reuse principles, the project was completed within a tight budget, sourced almost entirely through marketplace finds and second-hand materials. The rear cabinet, a key focal point, was repurposed from a free listing on Marketplace, now reimagined as a functional workstation. The lightbox was crafted by our friend Simon Buscombe, from Blackbutt and Red Ironbark framing timber, salvaged from homes in Kincumber and Long Jetty—materials rich with history, now given new life in this evolving space.

This project embodies the ethos of resourcefulness and sustainability, celebrating both the community of this place and the legacy of timbers long since milled. By adapting discarded materials into meaningful design interventions, Eser Barber reflects the interconnectedness of people, materials, and place—a space that speaks to its past while shaping its future
